Camaderry from Glendalough via Turlough Hill, back along valley and down Miners’ Track:

6 hours; 17k; 800m climbing

Meeting time 08:45 for departure at 09:00

An easy Grade 2, suitable for all. It’s quite long but the climbing level is more Grade 3-ish

Sorrel Hill/Lugnagun

Meeting time 09:45 for 10:00

This is a handy one pre-Christmas; estimated stats will be issued but rest assured it’s not a bit hard

December 23 and 30; No official club walks; you can do your own thing!

January 6; Grade 3; Sheila MacDonald ((087 770 0377)

This will be one of Sheila’s popular walks in the Dublin Mountains

Djouce from Ballinastoe Woods: 10k, 4 hours max.

December notes:

Plenty of nice short walks to suit the time of year. We hope to have some longer walks in the next, springtime, schedule.

Don’t forget to bring your head torch and hi-vis vest.

General notes:

Meeting point, unless otherwise stated is Rosemount Car Park, Marian Road, Rathfarnham.

Directions:

  • Continue from the Yellow House in Rathfarnham (past the former Tuning Fork) along Ballyboden Road to a traffic light junction
  • Turn right onto Ballyroan Road ( Scoil Eanna will be on your left)
  • Take the third Right Hand Turn onto Marian Road – on the left will be Ballyroan Church and

Supervalu Supermarket – the car park is in front of the church and shops.

Meeting times are usually 08:45 for 09:00 departure or 09:45 for 10:00 departure but are at the discretion of the walk leader(s).

Route details and estimated walk stats will be advised by the leaders in the week preceding the walk if they are not listed on the schedule.

Walk Grades

Grade 1: 18-24km – over 1000 meters height gain – tough – good level of fitness required – 6 hours plus in duration

Grade 2: 14-18km – 750–1000 meters height gain – strenuous – suitable for most regular walkers – 5-6 hours in duration

Grade 3: 10-14km – up to 750 meters height gain – moderate – suitable for those with a reasonable level of fitness – 4-5 hours in duration

Walks are generally off track and across rough terrain and steep hills.

Note 1 – All walkers should carry with them a high visibility jacket, head torch and whistle.

Note 2 – All walks should adhere to the Grade guidelines as far as possible.
